This blog is part of a series of articles where you can get to know more about our Members. The Members of Designs In Mind are our Designer Makers- learning skills in a variety of forms that create the beautiful products we sell in our shop. All our Members are in touch with Mental Health services in Shropshire and everyone has a different story. The Big Six shares a little insight into who they are and what they do here at Designs In Mind.
Nicki this is your Big Six are you ready?
1. How do you describe what you do at Designs In Mind to other people?
I tell them we’ve won the Queens Award! We do so many interesting and enjoyable things here, different activities and that has been recognised. I tell them about our commissions all over the country and what I get involved with; screen printing, stitching, felting. I don’t know of anything else like Designs In Mind it’s unique.

2. Name 3 of your specialist skills here…
1. Paper Cutting
2. Glass Art
3. Screen Printing
(Her smile- someone else chips in with their thoughts on Nicki’s skills)
3. What are your favourite words of wisdom?
Always look on the bright side of life
4. The votes are in- You’ve won! If you got elected as Prime Minister what changes would you like to see in healthcare?
More people who are genuinely caring in the system. Everyone should be well looked after this means getting to know people one to one. I don’t like hearing the stories in the media about neglect and cruelty in the care system.
5. What inspires you?
I was so inspired by the Paralympics, and the Olympics. Anything when I see people who have disabilities, or are ill yet they can be so brave- that’s what inspires me.
6. What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve heard people say about your health condition?
Well I can’t think of anything ridiculous- people just don’t understand and I know that. People assume bi-polar is depression but there are so many different types, and no-one knows what it is. I am happy to talk about it and I want people to know more. I mostly have lot’s of highs but for other people it is very up and down.
Thank you Nicki!
