Proud of Pride – Adam’s Rainbow Jewellery Launches at Oswestry’s First Pride Festival.
Our Member and Retail Volunteer, Adam, has created their own line of rainbow jewellery for the upcoming Pride celebration!
Oswestry is hosting its first Pride this year as part of the Pride Month Celebrations. Designs in Mind are proud to announce we have a stall at the upcoming Pride Celebrations. You can visit our stall on Saturday 15th June, 2024 at Cae Glas Park, between 10 am – 2pm.
One of the very exciting additions to our participation at Pride has been created by our Member Adam, who has designed and created their own line of Pride inspired jewellery, here at our Designs in Mind’s studio.
These exquisite pieces will be available to purchase at our stall amongst other items. Everything that Designs in Mind sells goes back into the organisation, where we work with adults with mental health challenges. Our Members create design that is developed into commercial design projects, public art commissions, and products like these that are sold online or in our shop. We are a not-for-profit studio; all the money we raise through our work goes back into supporting our service.
I asked Adam to collaborate with me on this blog, and to write a few words about the process of these pieces from design to product. Adam shared:

“It feels really nice to be able to develop this product, especially for such an important event! Seeing the feedback to the earrings has been very affirming and it’s been great to see how much freedom I was given to pursue this project. I was primarily influenced by the idea of minimalist pride imagery, as I felt that it would help the product to stand out against what other people would be selling at the event, whilst also tying it into the visual style of Designs in Mind.
I’m really excited about Oswestry Pride! As a member of the LGBTQIA+ Community it feels amazing that the town is finally taking part in Pride month and it’s been great to be able to help Designs in Mind show our support for it.
I hope to attend a few of the events over the month, and as a part of the Oswestry Film Society I’ll be working projection for our screening of “Pride” at the Hermon Chapel on the first Wednesday of June”.
We are very proud of Adam for developing this brand new jewellery range, from initial concept to a final collection of 3 products.
Our CEO, Ruth, said;
‘At Designs in Mind we always seek to foster creative adventure and an independent spirit. When Adam suggested that they develop a brand new product range for Pride, we were super excited to see their ideas take shape. Adam has designed beautiful products that use the translucency of perspex to show the beauty of the Pride colours in a collection of really wearable, exquisite earrings. We are certain that this product

will be a great success at Pride and beyond!’
The word ‘pride’ is an integral cultural concept within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex (LGBTQI) community, representing solidarity, collectivity, and identity as well as resistance to discrimination and violence.

Pride has been organised by several organisations since the first official UK Gay Pride Rally which was held in London on 1 July 1972. On November 2, 1969, Craig Rodwell, his partner Fred Sargeant, Ellen Broidy, and Linda Rhodes proposed the first Pride March to be held in New York City.
