Louis’ Myriad of Colours at Oswestry Library.
This week’s blog is all about our much accomplished Member, Louis. This is his second appearance in our blogs, you may recall us showcasing Louis’ Art Exhibition in Gobowen.
I like to think of Louis as a bit of a local celebrity, as he is involved in acting with Rocking Horse Media film company, where there is a pilot episode, awaiting an outcome! Louis also has a published book and sells his colourful designs on prints and clothing.
This latest achievement on Louis’ list was Workshops at the library in Oswestry. Louis was there with Geri, his art teacher. They were co running workshops, over a a couple of days in May, presenting Louis letter themed designs for hoodies, using his old favourite, a rainbow of colours of felt-tipped pens.
Louis is a Member on the same studio day as I attend, so over the time we have been with Designs in Mind, Louis has also become a friend. So it was natural that I was keen to go along to support his new venture.
I joined them on their Saturday workshop and thoroughly enjoyed making my collages. The technique consisted of prepainted paper in a myriad of colours. I was encouraged to rip up into small squares and add to the images that had already been drawn up to choose from. This technique was really enjoyable, it was very much mosaic style.
I chose a Venus de Milo and a Dragonfly drawing, as I felt those images lent themselves best to the first pieces of paper I was drawn to use . This was mainly because they were shimmery paints in pale green , purple, gold and silver pastel like colour’s.
Louis was very excited to be running this workshop, he is really good with people and was so welcoming to all those who took an interest in the event, as they passed through the library.
Louis was also really helpful in guiding me in the art that I produced. He is such an inspiration to many.
Geri, Louis’ artistic friend and support worker was also very welcoming. They are both very talented local artist’s and they have such a wonderful rapport.
Geri kindly shared some words on how the day went: “I imagined the library setting would be perfect for Louis to show-off his latest work, and interact with the public. He is a socialite, as we know and felt so uplifted to receive a buzz from those people who took the time to have a browse and listen to his story. He was delighted to offer them his advice and encouragement to ‘ have a go’ and ‘make something!”
Geri also shared that: “There will be more dates scheduled for Louis, across the summer holidays at the Library, as the great news is, he has been invited back as part of the Summer reading Challenge, entitled ‘Marvellous Makers.’ His newest project ‘Ferris Wheel’ is due to be featured at these fun workshops for all. He is thrilled to appear there again this Summer 2024. He says it makes him feel happy & calm. I am proud of his on-going enthusiasm, hard effort he puts in, for art!”
Designs in Mind are also incredibly proud of all the achievements that Louis is making and are very pleased that he is a Member of our organisation.
