This week’s blog revisits the wonderful news of a recently completed commission piece. Designs in Mind were approached by the special care dental team at Oswestry dental centre to install a bright and cheerful mural within one of their treatment rooms. The mural was commissioned by this special Dentist service.

It enhances a room at the practice, which is to be used for patients accessing talking therapies. This work was inspired by the landscape of Shropshire and motifs were all created by Members of the studio and then collated before digitally printing the artwork onto a peel-and-stick wallpaper.

During the preparation at our Designs in Mind studios, we Members created images based on Oswestry. We did a week of mono prints, then a week of collage designs, that had a mixture of flat colour, pastels, paints and textured shapes, drawn or painted by our members. Once these were completed, a handful of designs were chosen and our Artist Lead, Bridie, then worked on bringing it all together to make a final design for the mural.

The bright and vibrant mural was then installed by Bridie, with our volunteers Ronanni and Mathilda.

Bridie commented: “We were very excited to work on this commission as it was the first time we had used this particular kind of material – peel and stick vinyl wallpaper . The success of this project has meant that we are now able to consider what other spaces we might be able to install murals within . It’s a very versatile approach which can transform a space very easily into something striking and eye catching”.Wallpaper being installed on the wall

This wonderfully successfully executed commission made it into the Oswestry & Border Counties Advertiser;

‘Designs in Mind, an Oswestry art studio which works with adults with mental health challenges, has beautifully enlivened the Cambrian Medical Centre with a special commission.

This unique Oswestry studio, also known as an ‘arts for health’ studio, created the wall mural, digitally printed on peel-and-stick wallpaper to brighten a room designated for talking therapies at the medical centre.’
