This Summer, our Studio Artist Lead Bridie, will be presenting an outdoor art session, when Designs in Mind does August Art Attack!

Bridie will be the Artist leading this

This is all about making a large-scale piece of art, as part of Love Oswestry’s – Summer of Art programme.

Oswestry’s Summer of Art takes its inspiration from the national theme for the 2023 Heritage Open Days: Creativity Unwrapped.

Designs in Mind will be hosting an En plein air, free drawing workshop for the local community.

What is En plein air art, all about?

En plein air painting is about leaving the four walls of your studio behind and experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape.

The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. Their desire to paint light and its changing, ephemeral qualities, coupled with the creation of transportable paint tubes and the box easel—the precursor to the plein air easels of today—allowed artists the freedom to paint “en plein air,” which is the French expression for “in the open air.” to read more open this article link

This workshop will be suitable for all ages,as, it includes different activities to suit children and adults alike.

Come along to be part of this free event with some big scale collaborative drawings.

The art created will respond to the surrounding landscape, so there will be lots of visuals to inspire you.

Activities will include:

• Printing with leaves

• Foliage rubbings

• Guided drawing exercises using implements found in the park environment.

Make a day of it and bring along a picnic, a blanket and relax for the afternoon with your family or friends.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy all that nature and mark making have to offer.
